A senior consultant with SHAPE, Izak is a medical doctor with a postgraduate qualification in occupational medicine and health, and in travel medicine. He has supported multiple health impact assessments and other health consultancies for SHAPE since 2016.
A recognised authority in health impact assessment, he has led over 40 assessments across a range of sectors and countries. Izak was community health manager for the Mozambique LNG project from 2012 to early 2016, giving him active experience in conducting assessments as well as implementing and monitoring interventions — including the development of detailed contractor management specifications.
He has supported large and complex projects including large-scale mining, dams and pipelines. Izak's easy-going nature and clear communication allow him to explain complex findings simply and practically, and his extensive occupational health and travel medicine experience helps him understand workplace health issues and manage hazards to avoid or prevent potential community health and safety impacts. Dr James Moodie joined SHAPE in 2023 to support health impact assessments and the development of digital data-collection and monitoring-and-evaluation systems. He holds qualifications in medicine and science, and is currently undertaking postgraduate studies in occupational medicine.
Before joining SHAPE, James worked on the implementation of a large Community-Oriented Primary Care project. He has supported multiple health impact assessments across Sub-Saharan Africa.
He has a particular interest in improving community health and safety monitoring through digital solutions and, to that end, has developed a range of digitised tools to support SHAPE’s field work.
Specialists and associates
In addition to its core team, SHAPE can call on a broad network of specialists and associates to support the high-quality delivery of solutions to clients. These skills offer a mix of theoretical knowledge, practical experience and innovative solutions to address varying health challenges and opportunities.
SHAPE works with associates and associate organisations across both the professional and academic sectors, and through its networks is able to source local expertise — supporting inputs into the local context, increasing local capacity, and improving the sustained delivery of programmes.
